  • Study from the comfort of your own home at your own pace
  • Evidence based course with extra reading
  • Learn the theory of muscle physiology to inform your programming decisions
  • Learn how skeletal muscle adapts and responds to chronic and acute exercise
  • 1 hour CPD course to build on existing PT knowledge

Tutor, Jordan Curry, has an MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology and a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and teaches at College and University level.

This CPD course will give you an overview of muscle physiology. By the end of the course you will be able to understand the structure of skeletal muscle; understand the process of the proposed sliding filament theory, the structure of a sarcomere and why calcium is vital in skeletal muscle contraction; understand the types of adaptations that can occur in skeletal muscle due to chronic exercise; and understand the responses that can occur to skeletal muscle due to acute exercise.

At the end of the course you will receive access to a certificate which you can download and print as evidence of your CPD.

In this course Jordan Curry, will take you through the basics of muscle physiology. You will look at the structure of skeletal muscle, what it requires and the adaptations and responses of skeletal muscle to chronic and acute exercise.

Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. Previous students have come from a range of backgrounds from personal trainers and gym instructors to those wanting to gain more in-depth knowledge of muscle physiology.

Support
You will be supported throughout the course by your dedicated educational supervisor and the CORE Fitness Education team.

In module 1 you will develop your knowledge and awareness of the structure of skeletal muscle. You will look at terms such as Epimysium, Muscle Fascicle, Perimysium, Endomysium, Myofibril and Sarcolemma.

In module 2 you will learn about the process of the prosed Sliding Filament theory. You will look at the structure and function of a Sarcomere and explore why calcium is vital in skeletal muscle contraction.

In module 3 you will develop your awareness of type of adaptations that can occur to skeletal muscle due to chronic exercise. You will also develop a greater understanding of hypertrophy, hyperplasia, mitochondria, myoglobin, lactate and muscle and tendon strength.

In module 4 you will develop your awareness of types of responses that can occur to skeletal muscle due to acute exercise. You will develop a greater understanding of the following adaptions: blood supply, the temperature of the muscle, pliability, lactate and micro tears.
