Tutor, Charlie Binns, is a qualified performance nutritionist and is a Nutrition Consultant for Birmingham City Football Club.

This CPD course will give you an overview of Sports Nutrition. By the end of the course you will understand the fundamentals of nutrition and sports nutrition, the practical considerations of offering nutritional support to clients and performance nutrition, including nutrition for endurance athletes, team sport athletes and athletes that need to make weight criteria.

At the end of the course you will receive a certificate as evidence of your CPD.

This online course should take approximately 20 hours to complete.

In this course nutritionist, Charlie Binns, will take you through the fundamentals of sports nutrition. You will look at the fundamentals for nutrition for the average person before looking in detail at the nutrition needed for different sports, hydration, gastrointestinal issues and how nutrition requirements differ for special populations, such as disabled athletes, adolescent and mature athletes. You will also look at how to support your clients with their dietary changes and explore strategies to help with behaviour change and ways to monitor your clients.

Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. Previous students have come from a range of backgrounds from personal trainers and gym instructors to those wanting to learn more about nutrition for their own training.

Support
You will be supported throughout the course by your dedicated educational supervisor and the CORE Fitness Education team.

In unit 1 you will learn about fats, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and minerals and how they are used by the body. You will also learn about the digestive and endocrine systems and how hydration impacts health and wellbeing.

In unit 2 you will learn about the performance effects of carbohydrates, protein and fats. You will also learn about nutrition for muscle gain and fat loss and the nutritional requirements for special populations including mature and adolescent athletes. In this unit you will also learn about the importance of hydration for sports performance and explore whether ergogenic aids are needed.

In unit 3 you will learn about how to change the behaviour of your clients, along with the nutritional assessments you can use to guide them. You will also look at different strategies for programming and monitoring your clients along with how to support them online and how to perform effective consultations. This unit also covers the importance of reflective practice for nutritionists and how to continue to develop as a practitioner.

In unit 4 you will learn about nutrition for endurance athletes, athletes in a weight-making sport and athletes who participate in team sports. You will also explore the logistics of working in a multidisciplinary team.
